What are you learning?
In training Society and Welfare (double finality – TSO) the functioning of people in society is central. You develop a scientific-theoretical basis for health care, pedagogy, developmental psychology, physiology and anatomy. You largely work Projectually. This in combination with internships and workplace learning.
The program is structured around the subjects natural sciences and social sciences. Functioning You learn to perform (indirect) care and counseling activities in a family context with an eye for the wishes, needs, possibilities and limitations of children, young people and adults. You learn to prepare food.
Society and welfare After the educational reform, it is the successor to STW or social technical sciences Antwerp TSO level.

Profile Society and Welfare:
Are you interested in people and how they behave? Do you find things such as well-being, care for the body, food, health and how people live together interesting? Then this direction suits you. You are friendly, creative and good at communicating. You like to help, care and guide people. You also think it is important to do something for society.
Contents of the specific subjects:
Health promotion: Here you will learn about how the human body works and how to take good care of yourself and others, for example with cooking, cleaning and washing.
Man in relation to society: We talk about who people are, how they differ and what fairness and inequality mean. We also talk about poverty and laws that apply to young people.
Development and pedagogical action: We look at how people grow from babies to adults and discuss different ways of raising children. This helps prepare you for later internships or work as a supervisor or caregiver. We also teach you how to observe, talk and think carefully about what you do.
Project work: We go on trips, listen to guest speakers, attend workshops and organize activities to get acquainted with working in society.
Anatomy and physiology: Here you will learn about how the body works and what happens inside. It helps you understand how humans function as living beings.

Society and welfare is a practical-theoretical course of study in which you focus on activities within the healthcare sector and the welfare field. This direction emphasizes exploring social issues and trends.
You study topics such as perception and movement (applied physiology and anatomy), developmental psychology and parenting. This knowledge helps you understand human development, behaviors and the role of individuals in society. You apply these insights in practical situations related to education.
Important in this direction is the development of observation skills, reflection and communicative and social skills.
This direction is suitable for people who have a deep interest in people and their role within society, and who feel empathetic and enjoy caring for others.
Following this direction, there is the option to progress to the third degree in Healthcare.
Learning + Moving on has the finality "flow through" & "double finality" (advancement & labor market). The flow finality is the former ASO. These courses are intended to enable students to successfully progress to academic and bachelor courses. The double finality is the former TSO. These courses are intended to enable students to successfully progress to bachelor and graduate courses (= HBO5 courses) and / or to the labor market.
