GO! SPECTRUM SCHOOL ACQUIRES THE EUROPEAN VOTED LABEL FIRST WITH 4 OTHER SCHOOLS

A year ago five secondary schools from Antwerp and Waasland participated in a pilot project IN2STEM of Voka - Chamber of Commerce Antwerp-Waasland. Via a coaching program of the Chamber and with the support of twenty-one large industrial companies, the five schools were just the first in Belgium to obtain the EU STEM school label. These are the GO Atheneum and the Stedelijk Lyceum Campus Hardenvoort from Antwerp, the Deurnese GO! Spectrum School, Don Bosco from Hoboken and the Brother Schools Hiëronymus from Stekene. Due to the corona measures, they officially received their award via videocall today.

The main aim of IN2STEM is to ensure a greater influx of high-quality technical profiles in the industry. 'It is the 21 companies of our Platform Industry that have taken the initiative for this project', explains Luc Luwel, managing director of Voka - Chamber of Commerce Antwerp-Waasland. 'The industry in the Antwerp-Waasland region is among the world's best in industrial entrepreneurship. In order to maintain that position, they must be able to continuously draw on a large pool of technical top talent. But for that you need STEM education of an international top level in the first place. They did not have that guarantee. '

GO! Spectrumschool especially hopes that this will boost the image of the technical courses. 'We believe in the importance and the future of vocational education, both for the labor market-oriented courses and the courses that lead to higher education. We hope to receive more positive attention for this through this STEM label. And we are more convinced than ever to invest in our technical infrastructure, 'says director Christine Hannes.
