STUDY DAY

TARGETED TEACHING AND EVALUATING; TOWARDS AN APPRAISED EVALUATION SYSTEM

FRIDAY 26 APRIL 2019

Two school years ago, our school started with an evaluation system without points registration in our BSO, part-time and dual courses. Points were replaced by spheres that gradually turn from gray to green. A green dot means that the objective has been fully achieved.
The focus is on achieving learning goals per individual student and not on the class average. In this way, every teacher and the school can also guarantee the achievement of the learning outcomes and curricula much better. This year the students will reap the benefits. At the end of last school year, we noticed a decrease in the number of C certificates and, above all, a completely different way of discussing class councils with less discussion and much more clarity.

"The core business of evaluation is acquiring skills and working on competencies. With this system, both teacher and student have a clear overview of the learning process. This way the teacher can make perfect adjustments where necessary. The student in turn can perfectly map out his or her own trajectory. In principle, an acquired objective should no longer be evaluated. This allows the student to concentrate more on objectives that have not yet been achieved. ”
- Hans De Schepper, coordinator of the evaluation system.

Because we strongly believe in this way of evaluating, we also want to share our expertise with the rest of the educational landscape. After the success of the first edition, we organize Friday 26 April 2019 a second study day “Targeted teaching and evaluation; to a pointless evaluation system ”.
